October Catch Up
Hello :) It’s time to catch up on October at The Brambles. I can’t believe it’s been three weeks since I last posted. Time flies by so fast!
Things are beginning to slow down in the garden, but there are a few highlights:
- The blackbirds are back :) I’m not sure where they hide out during September but I don’t see them much.
- There are lots of interesting spiders to take a look at. The good thing about this time of year is that they set up their webs in set places around the garden and then often hang out in the middle of it. So I know exactly where to go to take a look at them. The best bit is I can look from a distance!
- I spotted a few ladybirds, unfortunately not any local varieties.
There is a definite chill in the air now and autumn is fully underway. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the autumn colours develop over the next few weeks. As the trees leaves change from green to autumnal hues the transition can either be subtle or sudden. Some trees change quicker than others, leaving a beautiful patchwork of colours.

Sorry I’ve missed your posts lately – this is a fab catchup :)
Beautiful pages and love the kits you used.
It certainly has been much cooler in the last few days and we had a frost one morning.
Our resident Blackbirds disappeared but seem to be back now too.
Not seen any ladybirds lately – I see there is a UK ladybird survey on this because
of the Harlequins invading here. Not seen hardly any spiders either.
Less wasps in the summer this years as well… all rather worrying.

Hello Gill :) As you know I’m always “catching up”! Next post will be soon, it really will!!! The blackbirds are I guess in for the winter and I love it when I look out and see them. Of course I love looking at all the birds and any animals that pass by :) I’ve only seen harlequin ladybirds, none of our native seven spot this year. And then I’ve only seen a handful of the others. There were a lot of spiders but I think they are all hunkering down now against the cold and aren’t out on their webs so much. Lots of those still! It was really frosty this morning, and all the bird drinkers were iced over on the top. The frosty leaves on the lawn looked great though. I didn’t see many wasps this year either and when I did it was quite late in the season. I know what you mean about worrying though. Natasha xxx
